Three towers affected by Ikeja-West, Osogbo 330kV line tripping – TCN

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed that three high-voltage transmission towers were affected by the tripping of the Ikeja-West/Osogbo 330-kilovolt (kV) line, resulting in a load loss of 165 megawatts (MW).

The incident, which occurred during a windy rainfall on Wednesday night, was disclosed by TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja.

According to Mbah, a detailed investigation by the company revealed that Tower 528 collapsed after a trailer truck struck conductors that had detached from a neighbouring structure, Tower 527. The impact also compromised Towers 526 and 524.

“At about 9:22 p.m. on Wednesday, the Ikeja-West/Osogbo 330 kV line tripped approximately 14.9 kilometres from the Ikeja-West Transmission Substation,” she explained.

TCN has since mobilised engineers to carry out repairs on the affected towers in a bid to restore normal power supply to Ikeja, Eko, and Ibadan Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos).

In the interim, the 165 MW load loss has been redistributed through alternative transmission lines to reduce the impact on the affected DisCos.

“TCN remains committed to ensuring the efficient and reliable transmission of bulk electricity nationwide,” Mbah added.
