Senator Ahmed Abdulhamid Malam-Madori, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, has urged Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, along with other officers, to continue exhibiting civility in response to ongoing violent protests.
In a statement from Abuja, Senator Malam-Madori praised the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for their professional conduct during the #EndBadGovernance protests happening nationwide. He commended the IGP and the officers for their restraint and professionalism, aligning with modern policing standards.
“I commend the Inspector General of Police and his officers for their professional handling of the #EndBadGovernance protests across the country,” said the senator. “Their dedication to professionalism, even when faced with the challenges posed by the protests, is admirable and demonstrates their commitment to the safety of Nigerians and the protection of their fundamental rights.”
Senator Malam-Madori emphasized the importance of the police maintaining ethical standards and civility as the protests persist. He called on all police officers to uphold law and order while respecting protesters’ rights.
“As the protests continue, it is vital for the police to remain professional in their conduct, adhering to the highest standards while respecting citizens’ rights to peacefully express their grievances,” he added.
The senator assured that the Senate Committee on Police Affairs remains committed to supporting the police in their mission to maintain public order and protect the lives and property of Nigerians. He also urged citizens to exercise restraint, engage in peaceful protests, and collaborate with the police to prevent the protests from escalating into violence and chaos.
