The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, has urged 19 newly promoted Naval Warrant Officers (NWO) to maintain high standards of discipline and dedication in their service to the Nigerian Navy and the nation.
Speaking in Abuja on Monday, Vice Admiral Ogalla, represented by Rear Admiral Joseph Akpan, Chief of Policy and Plans (Navy), emphasized the significance of the NWO rank, the highest in the rating cadre. He noted that the officers were promoted due to their exemplary discipline, commitment, and dedication over the years.
“Promotion is an act of God, and you should see it as such that you have been chosen among your peers,” Ogalla stated. “Many might have fallen along the way, and not all in service have been deemed worthy of this rank. Your hard work, dedication to duty, and unblemished records have brought you here.”
The CNS highlighted the key roles the officers had previously played and the increased responsibilities they now face. “When deployed, some of you will be in the Niger Delta. You must lead by example, with courage and greater dedication,” he said.
Ogalla also stressed the importance of maintaining high levels of cleanliness and discipline, given the new uniforms and responsibilities. “It is your duty to unite and guide the men and ratings, speak their language, and ensure you always have your act together,” he added.
He congratulated the officers and acknowledged their spouses’ support, which has enabled them to fulfill their duties effectively.
NWO Philip Shishi, speaking on behalf of the newly decorated officers, expressed gratitude for the promotion and the title of Admirals of the Lower Deck. He assured the CNS of their commitment to their new roles, promising to uphold the sanctity of their ranks and remain dedicated to the naval chief’s vision.
