The Rivers State chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, under Ogbakor Ndi-Igbo Na Rivers, has formally declared its intention to produce the next President-General of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization. This follows the passing of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the 11th President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
In a communiqué issued after a stakeholders’ meeting in Port Harcourt on Sunday, the group emphasized that the demand aligns with Article 11 of the Ohanaeze Constitution, which mandates rotational leadership among its seven member states.
The statement, signed by Livingstone Wechie, Convener of Ogbakor Ndi-Igbo Na Rivers, and Barrister Anthony Okolo, National Coordinator of Anyi-Anyi, called for adherence to the Constitution to foster unity and inclusivity within the organization.
“Rivers State has consistently supported other states in producing national officers. Now, it is time for us to lead,” Wechie remarked, highlighting the state’s contributions to Ohanaeze through key leadership roles such as Deputy Secretary-General and Deputy President-General.
The Rivers chapter believes that producing the next President-General will ensure continuity and inclusivity, advancing the goals of Ohanaeze Ndigbo while maintaining peace and unity across the organization.
