Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New People’s Democratic Party (nPDP), has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the ongoing controversy surrounding the October 5 local government election in Rivers State. Eze urged Tinubu to rein in the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Eze criticized the police for their handling of the election situation, pointing to an alleged invasion of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) by masked men in police uniforms earlier on Friday.
In his statement, Eze accused Wike of working to sabotage Governor Sim Fubara’s administration, accusing him of collaborating with the police to disrupt the election. He stated, “Wike’s desperation is to see the failure of Gov. Fubara’s administration so he can gloat.”
He further criticized the non-participation of the pro-Wike faction of the PDP in the election, suggesting it was an attempt to avoid manipulation, stating, “They opted out and are now sabotaging the process.”
Eze also attacked the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Rivers State, Dr. Johnson Alalibo Sinikiem, accusing him of acting as a spokesperson for Wike’s group. He claimed that INEC had no role in state-organized elections and criticized the REC for issuing statements that appeared biased.
