The Rivers State Government has officially confirmed the receipt of presidential palliatives aimed at assisting communities and local governments affected by flooding.
The State Flood Prevention and Management Committee, which is responsible for the distribution, stated that the relief materials will be distributed across all 23 Local Government Areas, including to non-indigenous residents.
Professor Ngozi Nma-Odu, the Chairperson of the committee and Deputy Governor, explained that the distribution was part of the state’s ongoing support for flood-impacted areas, with previous assistance already provided by the state government.
Speaking to journalists at the warehouse on Tuesday, Nma-Odu shared that some stakeholders had already collected their portions of the palliatives. She expressed confidence that the materials would offer much-needed relief, especially as a Christmas gesture for both indigenous and non-indigenous communities across the state.
The relief items received include 2,700 bags of rice, 140 cartons of tomatoes, 170 treated mosquito nets, and other essential supplies.
