Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has urged the opposition party to engage in thorough self-reflection.
George emphasized the need to identify the factors and individuals responsible for the PDP’s current challenges to prevent a recurrence before establishing a reconciliation committee.
Recently, the PDP formed a National Reconciliation and Disciplinary Committee, led by former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, and former Minister of External Affairs, Tom Ikimi.
However, during a television appearance, George expressed concern that the party was prioritizing reconciliation and disciplinary measures without first analyzing its performance in the last general elections.
He stated, “If you’re setting up reconciliation and disciplinary committees, there must first be a post-mortem analysis to understand the divisions that occurred during the election. We should examine the pre-election, election day, and post-election issues. After that, a committee can be formed to reconcile differences.”
George continued, “After a competition, whether you win or lose, a post-mortem is essential. There will be areas where mistakes were made because to err is human. We need to examine all perspectives, as there are currently three major factions. We cannot move forward divided.”
He added, “We must return to the foundational principles established by our founding fathers. At nearly 80 years old, I have no hidden agenda. If we don’t address these issues now, what are we really striving for? It’s crucial to understand how we arrived at this point to avoid future pitfalls.”
