The Osogbo Muslim community has expressed strong opposition to the recent appointment of Alhaji Muniru Adebayo Raji as the Asiwaju Musulumi of Osogboland. The appointment, announced by the Chief Imam of Osogbo, Sheikh Musa Animashaun, has been described as a unilateral decision that threatens the community’s harmony.
Speaking on behalf of the Muslim community at a press briefing in Osogbo, Sheikh Sulaiman Ajao Akala, the Head of the Alasaro, condemned the appointment, labeling it “disappointing” and “unwholesome.”
“This unilateral decision of the Chief Imam is an attempt to create avoidable religious crises in an otherwise peaceful Muslim community,” Sheikh Akala stated, emphasizing that Islam promotes peace and adheres to well-established principles for decision-making.
He further declared the appointment unacceptable, asserting that it demeans the collective sensibilities of the Muslim Ummah. Sheikh Akala also accused Alhaji Raji of involvement in past controversies, including a crisis at the Osogbo Eid Ground in June 2023 and divisive actions during political campaigns.
The appointment, which was officially made on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, has sparked widespread discontent, with community leaders calling for a review to maintain unity and peace within the Muslim community of Osogboland.
