Northern elders have cautioned President Bola Tinubu against negotiating with notorious bandit leader Bello Turji, following reports of his request for reconciliation with the government.
Alhaji Mustafa Aliyu Dutsinma, Chairman of the Arewa Elders’ Progressive Group, emphasized that any deal with Turji would compromise national security and undermine efforts to combat banditry in the North-West. The elders insist Turji must face justice for his crimes, which include murder, kidnapping, and destruction of property.
The group praised ongoing military operations in affected areas but stressed that reconciliation without accountability would betray victims and erode public trust. They urged the government to prioritize the safety of citizens and reject any moves to pardon Turji.
