The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has announced a forecast of thundery weather conditions across the country from Thursday to Saturday.
In its weather outlook released on Wednesday, NiMet predicted morning thunderstorms in the northern region on Thursday. Specifically, thunderstorms are expected to occur later in the day over parts of Taraba, Adamawa, Kaduna, Zamfara, Gombe, Bauchi, and Kebbi states.
In the North Central region, morning thunderstorms are anticipated in the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Plateau, Nasarawa, Kogi, Kwara, and Benue states. Thunderstorms are expected to develop over most parts of this region later in the day.
The southern region will see morning thunderstorms over parts of Ebonyi and Enugu states, with similar conditions expected across the region later on Thursday.
On Friday, morning thunderstorms are forecasted in parts of Taraba State, followed by thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening over Kaduna, Kebbi, Taraba, and Adamawa states. The North Central region can also expect morning thunderstorms, with further developments later in the day.
For Saturday, thunderstorms are anticipated in parts of Taraba and Adamawa states during the morning, with additional thunderstorms expected in Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, Taraba, and Adamawa states later in the day. The Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Kwara, Benue, and Nasarawa states will experience morning thunderstorms, followed by further activity later.
NiMet has warned of a high likelihood of urban flooding in major cities due to heavy rainfall, advising residents to stay clear of flood-prone areas. Additionally, strong winds may precede the thunderstorms.
The agency urges the public to follow safety advisories issued by relevant authorities and recommends that airline operators consult updated weather reports from NiMet for effective planning.
