The Kaduna State Government revealed that the Nigerian Army has taken responsibility for the accidental bombing that claimed the lives of over 30 villagers in Tudun Biri, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State during a Maulud celebration.
Initially, the Nigerian Air Force denied involvement in the attack, stating that no operations were conducted in Kaduna within the last 24 hours. However, the Overseeing Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, clarified that the General Officer Commanding 1 Division Nigerian Army, Maj Gen VU Okoro, admitted the army’s role in the tragic incident.
In a meeting at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House, Kaduna, attended by the deputy governor, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, Islamic clerics, traditional rulers, and heads of security agencies, Maj Gen VU Okoro explained that the Nigerian Army was on a routine mission against terrorists when the accidental attack occurred.
The statement released by the commissioner conveyed the condolences of the Kaduna State Government to the families of the victims. The deputy governor, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, expressed sympathy for those who lost their loved ones and prayed for the repose of the victims’ souls.
Search-and-rescue efforts are still ongoing, with dozens of injured victims evacuated to Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital by the state government. The heads of security agencies attending the meeting included the state Commissioner of Police, Director of the Department of State Services, and religious leaders.
