The Niger State Government has given the joint task force a 48-hour deadline to resolve the persistent gridlocks on the Lambata-Maje-Diko Road, which have severely disrupted commuter movement.
This task force comprises officials from the ministries of Homeland Security, Transport, and Works, along with representatives from the Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps, Department of State Security, Vehicle Inspection Office, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps.
The task force’s mandate includes removing all broken-down articulated vehicles from the road and clearing those parked along the roadside. Additionally, they are tasked with establishing alternative routes for smaller vehicles and assisting Salini Construction Company in promptly repairing damaged road sections.
Chaired by General Mohammed Bello (retd.), the Commissioner for Homeland Security, the task force held its inaugural meeting to strategize and immediately mobilize resources for the task.
The Lambata-Maje-Diko Road has recently seen extended traffic delays, largely due to the roadside parking of large vehicles and other violations. The state government’s swift intervention aims to restore smooth traffic flow and ensure commuter safety.
