The Ebonyi State government has recently acquired an extensive range of medical equipment valued in billions of naira, enhancing healthcare facilities across its 13 general hospitals and numerous health centers.
This latest delivery includes essential items like delivery beds, operating tables, and multi-function hospital beds. During an inspection at the warehouse where the equipment was stored, Ebonyi’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Moses Ekuma, emphasized that this fourth batch of equipment, procured by Governor Francis Nwifuru, was part of a focused initiative to address gaps in healthcare across the state.
Dr. Ekuma noted that with this investment, the government has made significant strides in overcoming challenges within the state’s healthcare system. Additionally, he highlighted that addressing power supply issues in hospitals is a priority, with plans underway to introduce solar power as a backup. This, he explained, would enable continuous operation even during outages, boosting efficiency across health facilities.
“We’re implementing solutions such as digitalized records and electronic communication among hospitals, which will enhance patient management. We’re also moving towards specialized healthcare services in general hospitals,” Dr. Ekuma said. He confirmed that more heavy equipment, like MRI and CT scanners, are expected soon to further expand the hospitals’ capabilities.
Echoing the government’s commitment, Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Jude Okpor, lauded the administration’s dedication to health sector reform. He urged the public to safeguard these new facilities, emphasizing the governor’s determination to meet the health needs of Ebonyi’s residents, including hiring medical personnel.
“This commitment reflects our People’s Charter of Needs,” Okpor stated, “and the Nwifuru administration is resolute in ensuring that Ebonyians have access to quality healthcare.”
