NCDMB Signs MoU With UBEC on Smart Schools Initiative

-

The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to implement the NCDMB-UBEC Smart Schools Development Initiative (NUSSDI). This initiative aims to enhance educational infrastructure, especially in areas with high rates of out-of-school children and underserved rural communities.

The agreement, signed on Thursday in Abuja, will focus on integrating technology into learning, building teachers’ capacity, and improving educational outcomes. According to NCDMB’s Executive Secretary, Engr. Felix Ogbe, the partnership will provide smart schools equipped with modern technology and innovative teaching methods. This will prepare students with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the digital age.

Basic education is a key foundation for human capital development, Ogbe noted, and the NCDMB is committed to developing talent pipelines for Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

UBEC Executive Secretary, Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, called the MoU a “game changer” for the funding and implementation of basic education. He emphasized that this collaboration will have a lasting impact on children, families, and the country’s future. Bobboyi also advocated for more resources in education and partnerships with other organizations to bridge funding gaps.

As part of the MoU, NCDMB will provide training and professional development opportunities for teachers, while both agencies will collaborate on infrastructure projects. The initiative will also promote local content, research, and industry-academia partnerships in basic education.

The Smart Schools Development Initiative is a continuation of NCDMB’s efforts to promote digital education and STEM learning. This includes providing fully equipped Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centers in schools across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones and training teachers to improve their teaching effectiveness.
