The South-South coordinator of the Nigeria Agribusiness and Agro-industry Development Initiative (NADDI), Mr. Howard Usen, has urged private individuals and organizations to collaborate with the Akwa Ibom State government’s ARISE Agenda, particularly in its Agricultural Revolution initiative.
Speaking ahead of the Third Agribusiness Round-table Conference, scheduled to take place at the Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort in Uyo, Usen emphasized that the Agricultural Revolution is crucial for the state’s growth and must be prioritized. He pointed out that the upcoming conference will host key ministers from sectors such as water resources, trade, and investment, along with the Niger Delta Affairs Ministry.
The event, themed *”Unlocking Agribusiness Opportunities for Economic Sustainability,”* aims to enhance export promotion, provide financial options for farmers, and offer insights into sustainable agro-allied businesses. Organized by NADDI in collaboration with the Federation of Agricultural Commodity Association of Nigeria and various federal ministries, it will bring together policymakers and industry experts.
As the chairman of the Central Planning Committee (CPC) for the conference, Usen highlighted the potential of agribusiness to create jobs and contribute to the state’s economic development. He also pointed out the need for sustainable systems in agribusiness to ensure growth, stressing that integrity and collaboration are essential.
The conference, scheduled for October 27-29, 2024, will feature exhibitions of agricultural products and provide networking opportunities for participants. Usen noted that financial institutions will be present to guide attendees on financing options and strategies for making commodities export-ready, with the aim of boosting non-oil exports.
However, Usen expressed concern about the challenges faced by farmers and entrepreneurs in the sector, particularly regarding access to finance and the lack of teamwork. He urged stakeholders to come together to address these issues and support sustainable agriculture.
The conference is expected to attract over eight Nigerian governors and promises to build on previous editions with high-quality discussions and expert participation.
