INEC Presents Certificates of Return to Edo Governor-Elect and Deput

-

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially handed over certificates of return to Edo State’s Governor-elect, Monday Okpebholo, and his deputy, Dennis Idahosa. The presentation took place at the INEC headquarters in Abuja, five days after their victory in the state’s governorship election.

The certificates were presented by INEC’s National Commissioner for Edo State, Rhoda Gumus, solidifying their positions as the incoming governor and deputy. Okpebholo will take over from Governor Godwin Obaseki, who completes his term on November 11.

Okpebholo, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), emerged victorious in a closely contested race, securing 291,667 votes and winning in 11 out of 18 local government areas. His main opponent, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), garnered 247,274 votes, while Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata came in third with 22,761 votes.

The election results were announced by Prof. Faruq Kuta, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, and the returning officer for the election.
