Operatives from the Imo State Police Command’s Quick Intervention Unit have arrested a 36-year-old woman suspected of child trafficking. The arrest occurred on November 20, 2024, following an intelligence-driven operation in Amajeke, Owerri.
The police rescued two children, believed to have been stolen in Anambra State, and have since reunited them with their families.
According to ASP Henry Okoye, the police spokesperson, the suspect admitted to her involvement in the illegal activity. She revealed that she works with a child trafficking syndicate based in Onitsha, selling stolen children primarily to unsuspecting parents in both Anambra and Imo States.
The police command reaffirmed its commitment to tackling human trafficking and related crimes, urging the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to ensure the safety of children and the community.
