Kemi Nandap, Controller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), announced that sponsors of the #EndBadGovernance protests residing abroad are now on a watch list and will face arrest upon entering Nigeria.
During a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, convened by Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Christopher Musa and attended by heads of security agencies, Nandap revealed, “We have identified some diaspora sponsors, they are on our watch list. Any attempt they make to come into the country, we will be notified and they will be picked up and handed to the appropriate authority.”
Nandap also stated that the NIS has increased its deployment of officers to land borders and airports to enhance security and prevent foreign intervention in the protests.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun reported that the police have identified several sponsors, some of whose accounts have been blocked, though he withheld further details.
Additionally, Yusuf Bichi, Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), represented by spokesman Peter Afunanya, confirmed that the DSS is monitoring individuals involved and collaborating with the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit to trace more funders of the protests.
This briefing followed a meeting between President Bola Tinubu and security chiefs to address the violence that erupted during the nationwide protests.
