EndBadGovernance: IG Egbetokun Denies Use of Live Ammunition by Security Forces

-

Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has refuted claims that the police, military, and other security agencies used excessive force, including live ammunition, against #EndBadGovernance protesters.

Speaking at a meeting of security agency heads in Abuja on Tuesday, Egbetokun clarified that security forces faced attacks from protesters but did not respond with undue force.

“The police and the military, as well as other security agencies involved in managing these protests, have not used excessive force. Instead, our personnel were attacked during the protests. There were no incidents of shooting by the police,” Egbetokun stated.

He emphasized that neither the police nor the military used live ammunition in handling the protests. “We have had cases where our officers were injured and are currently in critical condition,” he added.

Egbetokun dismissed allegations of excessive force as “fake news,” explaining that security forces employed only tear gas, refraining from using water cannons or rubber bullets, even when the protests turned violent.
