The National Hydro Power Producing Area Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has completed an inspection of its various interventions in Kebbi State. This visit, part of the Management Post-Evaluation exercise, focused on assessing the impact of completed projects in the areas of education, water, and security across several Local Government Areas (LGAs).
The Commission’s team, which included members from the Department of Planning, Research, and Statistics, toured the LGAs of Ngaski, Yauri, Shanga, Argungu, Augie, Gwandu, Aliero, Jega, Maiyama, Kalgo, Bunza, and Dandi. The inspection aimed to evaluate the viability of the projects and interact with the beneficiaries to understand the challenges faced and the maintenance efforts for sustainability.
Mallam Nura Tanko Wakili, Head of Press and Public Affairs at HYPPADEC, explained that the inspection was conducted under the direction of the Managing Director, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq-Yelwa. “The purpose of this Management Post-Evaluation is to review the completed projects, which have already been implemented in the respective communities, and to assess their effectiveness and sustainability,” said Wakili.
He noted that the Commission’s interventions included constructing classrooms, boreholes, and solar street lights. The feedback from beneficiaries has been largely positive, with many praising the Commission for its contributions. Notably, there has been an increase in school enrolment, particularly among girls, thanks to the educational projects. Additionally, the provision of boreholes and solar lights has been well-received.
Mr. Mustapha Jidauna Davou, Assistant Director of the Department of Planning, Research, and Statistics, mentioned that the data and reports collected from the evaluation would be compiled and forwarded to the management for further action and policy development.
Community leaders also expressed their appreciation for the projects. Alhaji Abdullahi Sambo, Amirul Gwade of Gwade village, highlighted that the construction of three classrooms in his community has led to increased school enrolment. Similarly, Mallam Umar Kurdu of Bunza Waje Model Primary School noted that the new classrooms have boosted pupil enrolment. Alhaji Muhammed Bello Rafin Ujariyo from Ujariyo village praised the classroom construction at Ujariyo Primary School and announced that the community will form a committee to ensure the maintenance of these facilities.
