Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State visited communities in Bokkos Local Government Area recently attacked by gunmen. During his visit, he expressed condolences to the families of the victims and pledged to ensure the safety of lives and property in the region. Governor Mutfwang described the attacks as a deliberate attempt to impoverish the people by instilling fear and preventing them from farming. He emphasized that such actions are aimed at forcing residents to abandon their ancestral lands, but assured them of his administration’s commitment to resist these efforts.
The governor also promised to improve basic amenities in the affected communities, including road networks, electricity, potable water, and mobile services. He urged the youths to avoid criminal activities and unite to defend their communities against further attacks. Commending the resilience of the people for not abandoning their homes, Governor Mutfwang assured them of support in rebuilding their damaged houses. He also acknowledged President Bola Tinubu’s concern for the safety of Plateau State residents and his efforts to end the cycle of attacks.
Earlier, Mr. Raymond Alo, the District Head of Manguna, thanked the governor for his visit and the provision of foodstuffs and other items for the displaced. He appealed to the state government to provide building materials to help those whose homes were destroyed to rebuild them promptly. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that on April 2, gunmen attacked Hurti, Josho, Daffo, and other communities in the Manguna District, resulting in over 40 deaths, the destruction of 383 houses, and the displacement of more than 1,000 people.
