Abdullahi Ganduje, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has accused the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) of deliberately undermining the party in the upcoming local government elections. Ganduje has threatened to take legal action if the commission continues to engage with individuals not recognized by the APC.
In a letter dated August 26, 2024, Ganduje expressed his concerns to Christian Ngwu, Chairman of ENSIEC. He alleged that ENSIEC has been interacting with an unidentified group claiming to represent the APC, without verifying their legitimacy or consulting the party.
The letter stated, “We have observed that your commission has engaged with this faceless group, which is not recognized as official APC representatives. This action disregards the APC constitution and Nigerian laws, and undermines the legitimate authority of Ugochukwu Agballah, who is the duly elected and recognized chairman of APC in Enugu State.”
Ganduje emphasized that Agballah is the only authorized APC officer for submitting candidates for the local government elections scheduled for October 5, 2024. He accused ENSIEC of violating both the Nigerian Constitution and the Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020 by ignoring the party’s official structure.
The letter warned that if ENSIEC does not cease its actions, the APC will have no choice but to pursue legal remedies. Ganduje stressed that the APC is not involved in any ongoing legal disputes or restrictive orders that would affect its participation in the elections.
He concluded, “Should your commission persist in its interference, we will be compelled to seek judicial redress to ensure that our rights and interests are protected.”
