Enugu Governor Mbah Proposes Historic N971bn Budget for 2025

-

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has presented a N971 billion budget proposal for the 2025 fiscal year to the Enugu State House of Assembly. Titled the Budget of Exponential Growth and Inclusive Prosperity, it marks a significant increase compared to the N521.5 billion budget for 2024.

The budget allocates N837.9 billion to Capital Expenditure and N133.1 billion to Recurrent Expenditure. Major focus areas include education, healthcare, infrastructure, and agriculture. The education sector receives N320.6 billion, continuing efforts to foster development through a knowledge-based economy. Healthcare is allocated N45.8 billion to improve quality and access, while N213.1 billion is dedicated to road infrastructure improvements. Agriculture is set to receive N82.3 billion to enhance food production and address inflation.

Governor Mbah noted a significant rise in the state’s Internally Generated Revenue, which grew from N37.4 billion in 2023 to N144.7 billion by September 2024. He emphasized that policies designed to reduce dependence on federal allocations were instrumental in this growth. For 2025, revenues are projected at N692.2 billion, with funding sources including IGR, statutory allocations, and external loans.

The Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Uchenna Ugwu, assured that the budget would be passed promptly to sustain the government’s development agenda, commending the governor’s leadership and commitment to transforming the state.

This proposal reflects the administration’s determination to drive economic progress and inclusive development across Enugu State.
