Fast-rising Nigerian player Piety Lucky was named Player of the Match in Nigeria’s dominant 178-run victory over Ghana in the opening game of their U-19 female cricket series at the UNILAG cricket oval on Sunday.
Lucky, just shy of a century, scored 97 runs off 53 balls, featuring 12 fours and two sixes. Nigeria, having won the toss, chose to bat first, amassing 212 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs.
Ghana struggled to chase down Nigeria’s total, with standout bowling performances from Peculiar Agboya and Peace Usen, each claiming three wickets. Ghana was restricted to 34 runs all out in 8.5 overs.
The series, organized by the Nigeria Cricket Federation, serves as preparation for the Nigerian U-19 team ahead of the 2025 ICC U-19 World Cup qualifiers in Rwanda later this month.
In other series action, a selected Nigerian team led by batter Sunday Salome defeated the Southwest female cricket team by 67 runs. The Nigerian U-19 team will face the selected Nigerian side again on Monday in their second game of the series.
