The Nigerian Senate has issued a warrant of arrest against the management of construction giant Julius Berger for consistently ignoring its invitations.
This resolution followed a motion by Senator Osita Ngwu (Enugu West), who raised concerns on Thursday about the company’s failure to appear before the Senate Committee on Works. He criticized Julius Berger for its alleged numerous failed contracts across the country and accused the company of disregarding the Senate’s authority.
Ngwu highlighted the Senate’s constitutional power to summon individuals or entities for investigative hearings. He urged the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, to enforce compliance by issuing the arrest warrant.
Supporting the motion, Senator Abdul Ningi (Bauchi Central) affirmed that the Constitution and Senate Rules empower the presiding officer to compel appearances through warrants.
Despite some dissent from Senator Adams Oshiomhole, Akpabio upheld the decision, citing relevant constitutional provisions and Senate rules to validate the warrant.
The Senate’s action underscores its determination to investigate Julius Berger’s operations and hold the company accountable for its alleged lapses in project execution.
