Former Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun has called on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to investigate and take action against Libyan authorities following the mistreatment of Nigeria’s national team upon their arrival in Libya on Sunday. The Super Eagles’ plane, originally scheduled to land in Benghazi, was diverted to Al Abaq Airport, which is more than two hours away from Benghazi.
Upon arrival, the team was left stranded for several hours due to the absence of transportation to Benghazi, where they are scheduled to face Libya in their AFCON 2025 qualifier on Tuesday. The Super Eagles had previously won the first leg 1-0.
Balogun expressed his frustration on social media, tagging CAF and urging them to hold the responsible parties accountable. “This is unacceptable,” Balogun remarked, calling for immediate action from CAF to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
