The Hadejia Local Government Council in Jigawa State has implemented a ban on all unauthorized motor parks to alleviate traffic congestion and promote road safety. The decision, announced in a statement on January 14, 2025, follows a resolution by the Hadejia Traffic Decongestion Committee.
According to the statement, taxis and mini-buses are now required to pick up and drop off passengers only at government-approved bus stops. The new regulations aim to streamline traffic flow and reduce road-related accidents.
The Chairman of the Traffic Decongestion Committee, Alhaji Sani Barde, stressed the importance of adhering to the new guidelines. Additionally, penalties for dangerous driving, including reckless behavior during weddings, and other illegal activities, such as loading passengers improperly, have been introduced.
The council has also revoked temporary stall permits along major roads, urging owners to renew them through official channels. These measures are designed to safeguard public safety and reduce traffic-related incidents in the area.
