The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned two individuals, Ojobo Joshua and Aliyu Hashim, for impersonating EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede and attempting to extort $1 million from former Nigerian Ports Authority Managing Director, Mohammed Bello-Koko. They were charged with attempting to influence an alleged EFCC investigation by offering a “soft landing” through bribery.
Both suspects were brought before Justice Jude Onwuebuzie at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja. The defendants pleaded not guilty, and EFCC counsel Elizabeth Alabi requested they be held in custody pending trial. The court set bail at N100 million for the first defendant and remanded both suspects at Kuje Correctional Centre until the bail conditions are met.
The hearing for the second defendant’s bail application is set for November 18, 2024.
