A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader in Zamfara State, Alhaji Abubakar Umar, voiced concerns about the increasing likelihood of an All Progressives Congress (APC) victory in the upcoming 2027 elections. Speaking to journalists in Gusau, Umar expressed unease, calling the anticipated political contest a “do-or-die affair” as APC stakeholders intensify their preparations for a potential takeover.
Umar highlighted that while PDP Governor Dauda Lawal has been the party’s primary financial backer, prominent APC figures, including former governors Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar and Hon. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, are using their significant influence and resources to bolster APC’s chances. He noted that the APC’s strongholds in Zamfara’s North and West zones, led by influential figures like Senator Sahabi Ya’u Kaura and Hon. Abdulmalik Zubairu Zannah, present formidable obstacles for the PDP.
“Power of incumbency might not guarantee PDP’s win in 2027 as APC supporters are rallying with renewed unity and focus,” Umar remarked, pointing to internal PDP challenges and APC’s strategic consolidation since 2019. The PDP chieftain cautioned that without a robust counter-strategy, APC may successfully reclaim power in Zamfara after a series of internal reconciliations strengthened their base.
