The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State has filed a lawsuit against the Zamfara State Independent Electoral Commission (ZASIEC) at the Federal High Court in Gusau, alleging that the Commission has violated electoral laws in preparation for the upcoming local government elections.
During a press briefing at the APC state secretariat, Mallam Yusuf Idris Gusau, the APC Publicity Secretary, accused Governor Dauda Lawal of using the ZASIEC Chairman to influence the election process. “How can the governor appoint ZASIEC’s executive chairman the same day he set dates for the sale of forms and the election on November 16?” he questioned.
According to Idris, electoral laws mandate a three-month notice to allow political parties sufficient time for activities such as primary elections. The APC spokesperson advised party members interested in contesting in the local government polls to delay their preparations, assuring them that party leadership is working to address the alleged irregularities.
