The Yobe State government has condemned violence against women and girls, stating that it violates the principles of natural justice. Abdullahi Bego, the Commission of Home Affairs, Information, and Culture, made this declaration on behalf of Governor Mai Mala Buni during the flag-off of the “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” sensitization program, organized by the State Ministry of Women Affairs in partnership with international NGOs and local Civil Society Organizations (CBOs).
Bego emphasized that protecting women and girls from violence is essential for their well-being and empowerment, noting that improving their access to education and economic opportunities is key to enabling them to meet their personal needs.
He stated, “The belief that women and girls deserve protection at all times, by society and the law, is grounded in both religious traditions—whether Muslim or Christian—and in common sense.”
Governor Buni’s administration has acted on this principle by establishing seven Government Girls Senior Day Secondary Schools to promote girl-child education. Additionally, the government has prioritized women’s inclusion in agricultural empowerment initiatives, ensuring they receive farming equipment and support items.
Bego further noted that Governor Buni’s belief in women’s vital role in society is rooted in the understanding that no society can achieve greatness without the active participation of women.
