Dr. Osita Chinedu, a lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, was tragically shot dead on Monday evening by suspected car-snatchers in the High Tension area of Aroma, Awka, Anambra State. According to reports, the gunmen attempted to force Dr. Chinedu to hand over his car keys before shooting him. It was unclear whether they made off with his vehicle, but he died on the spot at around 7 PM.
Colleagues from the university were informed about the incident, with one staff member alerting others to the tragedy and urging caution during the Yuletide season. The message advised people to prioritize their lives over their vehicles in such situations. Another staff member expressed frustration, noting the growing insecurity in the state, especially in the capital city, and lamenting the safety concerns for both staff and their families.
As of the time of the report, the Anambra State Police Command had not yet issued a statement on the incident.
