On Ogoni Martyrs Remembrance Day, President Bola Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to reconciliation and healing among Nigeria’s ethnic groups. In a message delivered by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu honored the legacy of Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight other Ogoni leaders who were executed in 1995 for their environmental activism against harmful oil exploitation in Ogoniland.
“As we remember the Ogoni Martyrs, let us honor their legacy by committing to a future where such injustices are no longer tolerated,” Tinubu stated. The President expressed solidarity with Ogoni citizens and the National Youth Council of Ogoni People, emphasizing a commitment to justice, peace, and sustainable development for Niger Delta communities. He further pledged his administration’s support for constructive dialogue to address historical grievances and build a unified, prosperous Nigeria.
This year’s remembrance, themed “After Price, Comes Prise,” underscores the nation’s dedication to learning from the past and aspiring toward a peaceful future.
