The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has firmly denied rumors that the upcoming local government elections in the state have been postponed. In a statement released by RSIEC Chairman, Justice Adolphus Enebeli (retd), the commission addressed a false report circulating on social media, which claimed that the elections had been delayed due to a court injunction.
RSIEC labeled the report as “fake news” and reaffirmed that the elections are still scheduled for October 5, 2024. Justice Enebeli clarified that at no point did he issue or make any statement suggesting a postponement of the polls.
In response to the misleading information, RSIEC urged the public to disregard the report, emphasizing that preparations for the council elections are proceeding as planned. The commission reiterated that the election timetable remains intact, and the October 5 date is confirmed.
