Akinlayo Kolawole, a member of the House of Representatives, has urged state governors yet to adopt the new N70,000 minimum wage to prioritize its implementation to alleviate citizens’ hardships.
Commending Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji for promptly enacting the wage adjustment, Kolawole described the move as a commendable step towards improving workers’ welfare. He emphasized that the new minimum wage reflects current economic realities and is crucial for addressing rising costs of living.
Kolawole, representing Ekiti North Federal Constituency II, stated, “Beyond legal obligations, the implementation of the minimum wage is essential to sustain the civil service and motivate workers, ensuring better service delivery and promoting economic balance.”
The lawmaker highlighted the outdated nature of the previous N30,000 wage in light of surging commodity prices and transportation costs. He also praised Ekiti workers for their support of Oyebanji’s administration and called on them to rededicate themselves to its policies.
Kolawole lauded Oyebanji’s focus on infrastructural development and workers’ welfare, urging Ekiti citizens to support the governor’s transformative efforts through prayers and cooperation.
He further called on governors nationwide to align their policies with President Bola Tinubu’s initiatives to create impactful programs aimed at improving citizens’ lives. “The President cannot achieve this alone; every leader must contribute to building a better society,” Kolawole added.
