The principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan, Mr. Abdullahi Fasasi, has been detained by the Oyo State Police in connection with the tragic stampede that occurred during a children’s carnival at the school on Wednesday. The stampede led to the deaths of at least 32 children.
Fasasi was invited to the police station around 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, where he honored the invitation, only to be detained upon arrival. He is currently being held at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in the Iyaganku area. As of the latest reports, Fasasi has not been released.
The stampede occurred during a carnival organized by Naomi Silekunola, the estranged wife of the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi. The police investigation is ongoing, and Fasasi’s detention is part of the inquiry into the tragic incident.
