The Gombe State Police Command has arrested Hannatu Ibrahim, 28, for allegedly stealing $35,000 (N53.5 million) from her Syrian employer and setting his house on fire.
In a statement on Wednesday, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the Command’s spokesperson, confirmed that two other suspects were also arrested in connection with the crime.
According to the police, Mohammed Jurdi, a Syrian expatriate with Triacter Nigeria Limited, reported that his cook, Ibrahim, had stolen his money and set his residence ablaze.
“Upon receipt of the call, a police patrol team from Gombe Division swiftly swung into action and arrested the prime suspect,” Abdullahi said.
Investigations led to the recovery of $7,100 from Ibrahim, while one of her accomplices was caught with a $100 bill linked to the stolen funds. In total, $7,200 was recovered as evidence.
The case will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
Police Rescue Kidnapped Housewife in Gombe
In a separate incident, the police rescued Amina Hussaini, a 22-year-old housewife, who was abducted in Wuro-Waila, Kumo community and held captive for five days.
Her husband, Usaini Magaji, 36, reported that six armed men invaded his home, firing gunshots before kidnapping his wife on March 19.
A police team from Akko Division, led by CSP Chama Yakubu, launched a manhunt, forcing the kidnappers to release the victim on March 24 before fleeing into the bush.
Mrs. Hussaini was rescued unhurt, received medical attention, and has since reunited with her family.
Meanwhile, the police also arrested five other suspects for various crimes, including criminal conspiracy, motorcycle theft, and illegal possession of firearms.
The Gombe Police Command urged residents to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
