Peoples Democratic Party Ward Chairman Assassinated in Imo State

-

Chiedoziem Anyanwu, the ward chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ife/Akpodim/Chokoneze Ward, Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, was brutally assassinated by gunmen on Thursday. The assailants, riding a motorcycle, fatally shot Anyanwu at his residence, as reported by sources familiar with the incident.

According to accounts, the gunmen specifically mentioned Anyanwu’s name upon arrival at his house, requesting to see him. Once identified, they proceeded to shoot him dead before swiftly fleeing the scene. The PDP chairman was killed in the presence of his wife.

Sources revealed that the tragic event has left the PDP community in the state in a state of uneasy calm. Anyanwu was described as a vibrant figure within the party, and the motive behind his killing remains unknown.

Lancelot Obiaku, the Director General of New Media for the PDP in the state, confirmed the killing and urged for the swift arrest and prosecution of the fleeing suspects.

The state police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, stated that he had not been briefed on the incident but assured that he would make inquiries and provide an update. However, as of the report filing, he had not yet provided additional information.

This incident follows a similar occurrence in February when gunmen shot the PDP chairman in Ogbaku ward, Charles Oke, in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State. Oke was attacked in his house, and although he raised an alarm and attempted to seek refuge inside his home, he was shot in one of his legs. The assailants escaped after scaling the fence of the building.
