Amid internal tensions, a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed Alhaji Yayari Ahmed Mohammed as the new Acting National Chairman following the suspension of Amb. Illiya Damagum. This decision was made despite a Federal High Court injunction in Abuja, which barred the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and Board of Trustees (BoT) from removing Damagum.
In a statement issued on Friday, PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba confirmed Mohammed’s appointment, citing the party’s constitution as the foundation for the move. The party urged members and stakeholders to remain focused, as it prepares for the upcoming NEC meeting on October 24, 2024.
