The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has resolved to meet with former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike in January to address the ongoing crisis within the party. The decision was made during an emergency meeting held in Abuja on Thursday, which sought to find a resolution to internal divisions.
Senator Adolphus Wabara, Chairman of the PDP BoT, stressed the importance of internal unity and cooperation within the party. He emphasized that the party’s strength lies in collective determination, not individual ambitions. “We cannot afford to let personal ambitions or differences overshadow our shared vision for a better Nigeria,” he stated.
Wabara further called for dialogue, collaboration, and a sense of shared responsibility to navigate the party’s challenges. He confirmed that the BoT would initiate efforts to restore peace starting with a meeting with Wike, following a previous promise to engage with him to seek lasting reconciliation.
The BoT chairman also took issue with the repeated postponements of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings under the leadership of Umar Damagum’s National Working Committee. He expressed concern that these delays were damaging the trust and confidence of PDP members, further exacerbating the party’s internal issues.
The planned meeting with Wike, set for January, marks the BoT’s continued efforts to bring about unity and stability within the PDP, aiming to address the underlying issues before they cause further disruption.
