The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT) is currently holding a closed-door meeting with the party’s National Assembly caucus as internal party tensions continue to escalate.
The PDP has been facing a growing internal crisis since the lead-up to the 2023 elections, with stakeholders criticizing Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum for his perceived failure to implement necessary reforms. The situation has been further complicated by persistent criticisms from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who has openly clashed with Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara and the PDP Governors Forum over the party’s structure.
The PUNCH recently reported that BoT Chairman Adolphus Nwabara, Secretary Senator Ahmed Makarfi, and other members of the BoT held a private meeting with Wike in Abuja on Tuesday. Additionally, the BoT met with Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, who also chairs the PDP Governors Forum, on Wednesday.
Now, the BoT is meeting with the National Assembly Caucus at the PDP’s Legacy House office in Abuja. Present at the meeting are notable figures, including Senate Deputy Minority Leader Lere Oyewumi, House of Representatives Minority Whip Hon. Ali Isa JC, and Hon. Pastor Ojema Ojotu.
The meeting’s purpose is to gauge the sentiments of the party’s National Assembly members and discuss possible recommendations to resolve the internal crisis.
