Top All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders, including Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, and Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti, have converged in Akure, Ondo State’s capital, for the final campaign push ahead of Saturday’s governorship election. Philip Shaibu, the former Deputy Governor of Edo State, is also in attendance.
Sanwo-Olu’s media aide, Gboyega Akosile, confirmed their arrival, posting on social media platform X that the leaders were present to support Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s bid to retain his seat. “Flash: Governors @jidesanwoolu, his Ogun State counterpart @DapoAbiodunCON, Ekiti State Governor @biodunaoyebanji, former Deputy Governor of Edo State @phillips Shuaibu, Lagos GAC members, and leaders of the @OfficialAPCNg storm Akure for the party’s mega rally,” Akosile wrote.
The APC’s incumbent candidate, Governor Aiyedatiwa, is set to compete against opposition contenders in a bid to continue his administration, having assumed office in 2023 following the passing of former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
Meanwhile, former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has urged for a fair election process, warning against any malpractice in the upcoming poll. Atiku asserted that the PDP would resist any form of electoral misconduct on election day.
