Dr. Daniel Olukoya, the General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), has expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future despite current challenges, attributing the nation’s significance to its geographic position on the African continent.
“There is hope for Nigeria. If you observe Africa’s map, it looks like a gun, and Nigeria is positioned where the trigger is held. This isn’t a coincidence—God has a purpose for this nation. I firmly believe in a unified Nigeria,” Olukoya stated during an interview on Sunday.
The interview took place as MFM celebrated its 35th anniversary, during which Olukoya emphasized the importance of prayer for divine intervention in Nigeria’s affairs.
The anniversary convention, themed ‘Power from on high,’ ran from August 16 to 18 and concluded with a Thanksgiving and Holy Communion service at the Prayer City along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
MFM, which started in 1989 with a small prayer meeting of 24 people in Olukoya’s living room in Yaba, has since grown into a global ministry.
Olukoya stressed, “We must seek divine intervention through prayer. As a song reminds us, ‘The arm of flesh may fail you,’ and human effort alone might not suffice, but with God, all things are possible. The Bible tells us, ‘Except the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain that build it.’ You can have all the resources and still not succeed. We need God’s guidance for our nation and its leaders to make decisions that truly benefit the people.”
Speaking on the future of MFM, Olukoya highlighted the church’s mission to spread the gospel worldwide. “The next phase is to take the message of salvation across the globe. More people are turning to prayer, realizing that earthly powers offer little help but instead drain resources. It’s time to flood the world with the gospel, sparking a global wave of deliverance and prayer.”
During the service, Olukoya awarded gifts to 492 first-class graduates from the church, a tradition he started in 2011 to encourage academic excellence among the youth.
“We are motivating our youth to excel,” he said. “I believe MFM has the highest number of first-class graduates in Nigeria. In 2011, God inspired a program within MFM to reward our young achievers. That year, 19 students earned first-class degrees, and I gave them cars. As the program grew, so did the number of graduates—by 2019, we had 329, and today, in the sixth edition, we have 492 first-class graduates.”
Olukoya urged students to see this recognition as a challenge to strive for greater achievements. He also advised them to join the MFM Campus Fellowship to remain connected to the church community.
The event was attended by prominent figures, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the Erelu of Lagos, Chief Abiola Dosumu, and various traditional rulers.
