Nigerian Student Sets New World Record for Longest Catwalk

-

A University of Lagos (UNILAG) student, Ololade Ayelabola, has set a new Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest distance walked by a model, covering an impressive 130.62 kilometers.

Ayelabola embarked on her record-breaking attempt on October 1 at UNILAG’s indoor sports center, initially aiming to complete a 120-kilometer walk. Surpassing her goal, she went on to cover an additional 10 kilometers, completing a total of 2,058 laps within the venue.

In an Instagram post, Ayelabola shared that her achievement was not only personal but also aimed at showcasing Nigeria’s creativity and fashion industry. She also highlighted the importance of breaking stereotypes that limit models, stating, “I’m not walking for myself alone. I am walking for many models who have been limited by stereotypes and standards set by rigid systems.”

Her record-breaking catwalk is pending official verification by the Guinness World Records. If confirmed, Ayelabola will surpass the previous record of 114.4 kilometers set by Roberta Brown and Lorraine McCourt in Dublin, Ireland, on September 21, 1983.
