Nasarawa Oil discovery, a landmark achievement of Gov. Sule’s administration, Says Assembly Speaker

The Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon. Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi, says that the oil discovery in the State during the administration of Gov. Abdullahi Sule, is a landmark achievement of his stewardship that will stand the test of time in the history of the State.

The Speaker stated this today in Lafia while speaking with newsmen on the inauguration of Gov. Sule for second term and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Speaker scored Gov. Abdullahi Sule high on peace, security and other developmental initiatives in the State.

He congratulated Gov. Sule and President Tinubu on their inaugurations and wished them a successful tenure.

The Speaker said that Gov. Sule’s achievements in the area of security, heath, education, agriculture, transport, infrastructure, investment among others are tremendous, adding that the oil discovering in the State was as a result of the Governor’s tireless efforts and a landmark achievement that will stand the text of time.

” His Excellency experience in the oil and gas as well ss his intensive lobby with the Federal Government led to the discovery of oil in Obi LGA of the State .

” The State will benefit from the 13 per cent derivation once the oil exploration fully take off in the State.

” And this will bring more development to communities across the State,” he said.

The Speaker also said that the people of the State massively voted Gov. Sule for the second term due to his tremendous achievements in almost all sectors of the economy.

” His Excellency, Gov. Abdullahi Sule has done well in his first term as Governor, that was why the people of the State massively elected him for second term in office.

” Gov. Sule has brought peace, enhance unity and development across communities of the State.

” His good policies and programmes have direct bearing on the lives of our people and improved our citizens welfare and we will continue to appreciate him for that,” he said.

On President Tinubu’s inauguration, the Speaker said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have the capacity and experience to transform Nigeria and to take the country to the next level of development.

” His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari has done his best in the last eight years, we have the hope that His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will continue from where the outgone President has stopped and he will address the developmental and other challenges facing the nation.

” Tinubu has done well when he was the Governor of Lagos State through transformation policies and programmes and of course Nigerians did not expect anything shorter than that.

” It is our hope that he will transform Nigeria, ensure peace, unity and speedy development across the States of the Federation including FCT Abuja, ” he said.

The Speaker called on the people of the State and Nigeria at large to pray and support Gov. Sule and President Tinubu to succeed in order to enjoy more dividends of democracy.

He added that every leader and government need the support of her citizens to succeed, hence the need of his call in that direction.

The Speaker called on the people of the State and Nigerians at large to be law abiding, respect constituted authorities, live in peace, unity and tolerate one another irrespective of their affiliations.

TCN Acknowledges 7th Grid Collapse in 2024

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported its seventh partial grid collapse in 2024. Despite the recurring issue, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, reassured the public that efforts to restore power are well underway, with about 90% of substations receiving bulk power.

Mbah noted that the Azura Power Station initiated the grid recovery, although a minor setback occurred. However, power supply has been restored to the Abuja region and other key distribution centers. The Ibom Gas Generating Station remained unaffected, continuing to supply power to the South-South region.

An investigation into the cause of the collapse will commence once full grid restoration is achieved.

Jigawa Tanker Tragedy: Shettima, First Lady Mourn Victims, Pledge Federal Support

Vice President Kashim Shettima has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic tanker explosion in Jigawa State, which claimed over 100 lives. In a statement issued by his media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima, on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, extended condolences to the affected families, praying for strength and comfort in their time of grief.

Shettima assured the public that the federal government is mobilizing resources to support the injured and assist those affected. He has directed the immediate deployment of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide aid. The Vice President also stressed the need for a review of fuel transportation safety protocols to prevent future incidents.

In a separate statement, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu offered her condolences to Jigawa Governor Umar Namadi and the people of Jigawa, praying for peace and comfort for the families affected. She called the incident “unfortunate” and extended prayers for the recovery of the injured and the repose of the souls lost in the tragedy.

Nigeria Customs Intercepts Arms, Ammunition Worth N9.5bn Over Six Years

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has revealed that it intercepted a total of 10,598 pieces of arms and 114,929 rounds of ammunition valued at N9.58 billion over the past six years. Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, made this disclosure during a press conference on enforcement activities in Zone A.

Adeniyi highlighted that 60% of these seizures occurred in 2023, reflecting the Customs’ increased efforts to curb arms smuggling. He also mentioned that recent operations such as Operation Whirlwind and Operation Swift Sting are part of a strategic response to tackle evolving smuggling tactics.

In addition to arms seizures, the Customs CG announced the largest pangolin scale seizure since 2020, with 9,493 kg of scales confiscated in collaboration with the Wildlife Justice Commission. The joint operation led to four arrests across Kano, Kaduna, and Lagos. The NCS continues to intensify efforts against wildlife trafficking, targeting supply routes in northern Nigeria and border areas.
