Mary Njoku Discusses Marital Drama: Advocates Optional Name Change After Divorce
Nollywood actress and movie producer, Mary Remmy Njoku, has subtly entered the conversation surrounding the recent marital discord between her colleague, Yul Edochie, and his estranged wife. Yul had publicly requested his wife to drop his surname and return her bride price.
In response to the situation, Mary expressed her views, emphasizing that a mother should not be compelled to have a different name from her underage kids, unless she is allowed to change their names as well. She argued that when a marriage ends, changing one’s name should be optional, especially considering the effort and time invested in building that name.
Mary Njoku stressed that some wives have played significant roles in making their surnames noteworthy, and requesting them to drop it is akin to infringing on their copyright. She stated, “If marriage ends, change of name should be optional Biko. Someone cannot build a Name for many years and he asked to change it just because Oga no wan do again.”
This perspective sparked various reactions in her comment section, with some supporting her stance and citing examples of Hollywood celebrities who have retained their husband’s surnames even after divorce. Award-winning artist Davido has declared his fourth album, *Timeless*, as his best work to date. In an interview with comedian and actor Broda Shaggi during the unveiling of his new Puma collection, Davido discussed his fashion choices and shared insights about his music.
Reflecting on his style, Davido stated, “They say I like to dress like a rapper because I love urban fashion. I love wearing T-shirts, jeans, and sneakers to look comfortable. You will find me in a suit when it’s time to collect money. Sometimes, I also wear Agbada.”
Released on March 31, 2023, *Timeless* achieved remarkable success, setting records for first-day and first-week streams on platforms like Spotify Nigeria, Audiomack, Boomplay, and YouTube. The film *dire, featuring Kehinde Bankole, has garnered four nominations at the Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards. FilmOne Entertainment announced this achievement via their Instagram, highlighting the film’s exceptional cinematography and performances.
