Man Utd: Rio Ferdinand Questions New Manager Amorim’s Decision to Part Ways with Van Nistelrooy

-

Manchester United icon, Rio Ferdinand, has suggested that new manager Ruben Amorim may have made an early misstep by not retaining former interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy on his coaching staff. Amorim, who joined United from Sporting Lisbon, brought his trusted coaching team to Carrington, leaving out Van Nistelrooy, who had briefly filled the interim role.

Ferdinand acknowledged that while Van Nistelrooy’s presence could have been a potential distraction, his connection with the current players might have been valuable for Amorim’s transition. He noted that any manager in Amorim’s position would need confidence to either integrate or release a high-profile figure like Van Nistelrooy.

Reflecting on the move, Ferdinand said, “We’ve been looking for a manager to build rapport with the players. Why would you move away from someone who already has that?”
