Lawyer Demands Release of Chidibere Echefu, Detained by DSS Since 2021

-

Aloy Ejimakor, lead counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has called on the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adeola Ajayi, to release Chidibere Luke Echefu, a father of five detained since November 2021 without formal charges.

Ejimakor, in a post on social media platform X, expressed concern over the prolonged detention, stating:

“This is an appeal to DG SSS (Mr. Adeola Ajayi) to free this young man (Chidibere Luke Echefu) who has been detained by DSS in Abuja since Nov. 2021 (over 3 years) without charge. I filed suits to free him, but DSS is resisting. This man has a wife & 5 children who have suffered.”

Echefu, a native of Umuogbuanu Umucheke Okwe in Onuimo LGA, Imo State, was reportedly apprehended by DSS operatives at his residence in Owerri, Imo State, on November 7, 2021, around 3:25 a.m. Despite legal efforts to secure his release, the DSS has allegedly continued to resist compliance.

The prolonged detention has raised concerns about human rights violations and the impact on Echefu’s family. Advocates have urged the DSS to respect due process and expedite his release.
