The Lagos State Police Command has uncovered a baby factory operating in the Ijegun area of the state, rescuing 10 victims and arresting three suspects linked to the illegal operation.
Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this to reporters on Monday. He said the operation followed a tip-off received by the police last Saturday, which led officers to swiftly act on the intelligence.
The primary suspect, 35-year-old Mariam Vincent, was arrested alongside two accomplices — Orie Ruth, 23, and Ujunwa Ifeanyi, 18.
During the rescue operation, officers found seven adult women and three children aged seven, five, and two. Those rescued include Precious (24), Magdalene (25), Adaobi (23), Princess (22), Ifeanyi (25), and Amaka (26), while the children were identified as Destiny (7), Miracle (5), and Success (2).
“All the rescued individuals are now receiving proper care and support,” Hundeyin said.
The police revealed that the suspects admitted to kidnapping the victims from various parts of Lagos to operate the baby factory. Hundeyin confirmed that an investigation is ongoing and that the suspects will be charged in court upon its conclusion.
