Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to enhancing infrastructure and resources in the livestock sector for the benefit of the state’s populace.
AbdulRazaq made this declaration during the commencement of the third batch training workshop for an additional 100 extension agents and farmers on small ruminant production and crop residue processing at the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation, Idofian, Ifelodun local government area of Kwara State.
The event, organized by the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project Coordination Office in collaboration with Synergy Impact Consultant Limited and the Centre for Dryland Agriculture, Kano, focused on equipping livestock farmers with crop residue crushers and pelleting machines.
Represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs. Oloruntoyosi Thomas, Governor AbdulRazaq highlighted the challenges facing the livestock sector, including climate change, disease outbreaks, and limited access to resources and markets.
He emphasized that capacity building through initiatives like the L-PRES Project is crucial for overcoming these challenges and maximizing the sector’s potential in Kwara State.
“Our goal is to empower farmers with the necessary skills and resources to tackle these challenges effectively and sustainably,” Governor AbdulRazaq stated. “By adopting best practices in livestock management, we aim to ensure healthier livestock, increased yields, and reduced environmental impact.”
The governor underscored the significance of the crop residue processing equipment, emphasizing its role in enhancing the state’s livestock productivity. He urged participants to leverage the training opportunities to contribute to the state’s economy positively.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties, AbdulRasaq Jiddah, encouraged participants to apply their newfound knowledge to drive economic growth in Kwara State and beyond.
Dr. Akeem Ajeigbe, the lead facilitator, commended Governor AbdulRazaq for his unwavering support towards the success of the training. He urged participants to utilize their training effectively to address existing challenges in the state’s livestock sector.
Participants, Mrs. Abdulkareem Shukurat and Mr. Akani Tajudeen, expressed gratitude to the governor for empowering them to become self-reliant and creators of job opportunities.
In conclusion, State Project Coordinator Mr. Olusoji Oyawoye commended the governor, the World Bank, and the National L-PRES Office for their support in creating an enabling environment for the project’s success in Kwara State.
